This month, Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts opened its first property in Japan: the Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo, on the top 11 floors of the 37-floor Marunouchi Trust Tower (www.shangri-la.com). The 202-room hotel, near Tokyo Station, has two restaurants, a spa, a health club and an indoor pool. It is also home to over 2,000 pieces of art and 50 handmade chandeliers, some with glass carved into the shape of ginkgo leaves (Tokyo’s symbol).

Through April 12, the Discover Shangri-La package is available for 110,000 yen a night (about $1,090 at 101 yen to the dollar), and includes breakfast and a commemorative gift. Regular nightly rates start at 56,000 yen.

Opening later this month is the Capella Singapore, on Sentosa Island (www.capellasingapore.com). Two colonial buildings called Tanah Merah provide the centerpiece for the hotel, which was designed by Norman Foster. The hotel , on 30 acres, is just minutes away from the business district by public transportation. There are 111 guest rooms (including 38 garden villas with private outdoor showers and bathtubs), a Chinese fine-dining restaurant, a tea lounge and an 8,000-square-foot spa.
