Big green party at Portland Expo Center starts Friday - Green Property - Oregon - United States - Exhibition - Shows

The Energy Trust Better Living Home & Garden Show is Friday through Sunday (March 27-29) at the Portland Expo Center. The schedule includes a mind-boggling amount of things to do, learn and buy that are, by the show's definition, characteristic of a "sustainable lifestyle."

Plus, the event itself is free.

We're talking dozens of exhibitors, from Affordable Gutter Covers to Madrone Regenerated Clothing to Willamette Valley Vineyards. Stroll among multiple stages that feature cooking demonstrations, eco-fashion shows and short films from around the globe. Children get their own real estate at "PlanetKids," where they can learn how to build a solar oven or dissect a salmon while getting a tattoo from a guy who calls himself Larry the Lightbulb.

• Oregon State University will present a seminar series covering a range of topics, from understanding federal tax credits for energy-efficient home improvements to creating a rain garden, to all you need to know about composting toilets.

• For show attendees looking for more than a good time -- like, say, a job -- a Green Jobs Fair is noon to 4 p.m. on Friday.
