The region's stable housing market continues to push the area's home prices up, which Realtors say is helping sellers get a fair price for property.

First American CoreLogic, a group that tracks national real estate trends, last week released data that showed home prices in Beaumont-Port Arthur rose 2.66 percent.

State home prices increased only 1.36 percent compared with last year, according to the group. Nationally, home prices fell 11.5 percent.

The local increase shows that the slow and steady growth the Southeast Texas real estate market has seen in the last decade is holding, said Andy Hemmings, president-elect of the Beaumont Board of Realtors.

Phyllis Hoffpauir, president of the Port Neches, Port Arthur and Nederland Board of Realtors, said Mid County recently has had more buyers and fewer sellers, showing that people still are moving to the area and boosting the area's real estate market.
