Omni Hotels & Resorts’ is banking on meeting planners’ love of music with its fall “Rock Star” promotion. Two tickets to Lady Gaga’s February 2011 concert in New York City are the main draw of the program, which also rewards planners with Ticketmaster credits.

We like this idea, which stands apart from the typical campaigns used to draw in groups, such as discounts on the group’s master account or guest room discounts.

Here’s how the program works: planners who book two meetings worth US$20,000 in room revenue by 31 December 2010 receive a US$500 Ticketmaster credit. Those who book three meetings receive a US$1,000 Ticketmaster credit and those who book four meetings get a US$1,500 Ticketmaster credit. Meeting planners who meet the US$20,000 criteria also receive a Bose iPod docking station.

The sweepstakes for the Lady Gaga tickets—which includes airfare and guestrooms—is open to all meeting planners.

“This is our fourth-quarter incentive for 2011 business. You look for something that is universal, and music appeals to everyone, across generations,” said Tom Faust, VP of sales for Omni Hotels & Resorts. The Lady Gaga concert is a “hot ticket” and grabs planners’ attention, Faust added. Wisely, Omni is also running a corresponding internal contest to help spur group sales.
