A property developer will appear in court today after being charged with the attempted murder of a solicitor who was shot in the face with a sawn-off shotgun.

James Ward, 59, a father-of-three, was left in a critical condition in hospital after being blasted in the head in his office in the market town of Devizes, Wiltshire.

Michael Chudley, 62, a builder and property developer was arrested by detectives yesterday.

Mr Chudley had been living with his new partner, Francine Whale, at Kingfisher House, a mock Tudor seven-bedroom detached property in the village of Rowde, near Devizes.

Mr Ward, who is fighting for life in Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, was described as a “lovely man” who would do anything for anybody.
