Housing aid draws crowd in Detroit

DETROIT — This city's desperate struggle to weather the fallout of a recession played out in anger, scuffles and fainting Wednesday when thousands of residents lined up to get a limited number of applications for housing and utility payment assistance.

Lenawee County builders and real estate agents say the housing market is looking up

Anybody who’s tried to — or had to — sell a home lately knows that the real estate market is far worse today than in its heyday of only a few years ago. And while that’s as true of Lenawee County as anywhere, those involved in local real estate say there are some glimmers of hope beginning to appear.

A changing approach to home renovation and building has prompted a new section in this year's Livingston County Home Show. The three-day show runs March 27-29 at Howell High School and is sponsored by the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce.

It might seem like a good time to be in the open-space preservation business.Development pressure in areas outside Ann Arbor and other communities has fallen from intense to nonexistent. And any developers or development companies that had been sitting on potentially buildable land might well be ready to dump it.
